Jerzy Maria Kaliski
Jerzy Maria Kaliski, born in 1944 in Rzeszów, Poland, has carved an illustrious career in the construction industry spanning over three decades, characterized by profound achievements and global contributions. Jerzy’s formative years were shaped by the guidance of his parents, Zbigniew and Wanda de Białynia Wójcikiewicz, who instilled in him a strong work ethic and a pursuit of excellence.
He embarked on his academic journey at Kraków University of Technology, earning a master’s degree in civil engineering with a specialization in steel structures. Jerzy’s first and perhaps most significant academic achievement was his master’s thesis in the Department of Steel Structures, widely acknowledged as one of the most challenging fields of study. In 1968, his thesis was honored as the best master’s thesis among Polish technical universities. His commitment to continuous learning led him to pursue doctoral studies in organizational management, enhancing his strategic insights and leadership capabilities.
In 1979 and 1989, Jerzy received esteemed honors, including the Knight’s Cross and Officer’s Cross of the Order of Polonia Restituta, as well as the Commander’s Cross with Crown and Silver Star of the Order of Saint Stanislaus. These accolades recognize his exceptional service and contributions to Poland’s technical and construction sectors.
Jerzy’s professional career began at Chemobudowa-Kraków in 1969, where he rose to the role of CEO from 1980 to 1990. Under his visionary leadership, the company flourished, employing 5,500 professionals and undertaking significant international projects. In 1990, Jerzy founded Krakbau S.A., a pioneering enterprise financed entirely by Polish capital. As President and CEO, he propelled Krakbau to unprecedented heights, expanding its operations across Poland and key European markets. Noteworthy achievements include establishing branches in Frankfurt, Germany in 1992 and Copenhagen, Denmark in 2016.
Krakbau S.A. specializes in diverse construction sectors, encompassing general construction, tunneling, marine and bridge construction, industrial scaffolding assembly, and electrical works. The company’s dedication to quality earned it prestigious accolades such as the “Eagle of Polish Business” award from the Lech Wałęsa Institute Foundation in 2011.
Beyond his professional endeavors, Jerzy cherishes his role as a devoted family man. He is married to Dorota Krystyna Machnik, a historian and retired educator, with whom he shares a profound bond. Together, they take pride in their children’s achievements: Tomasz, an economics graduate from the Kraków Academy of Economics, and Patrycja, who holds master’s degrees from the Academy of Physical Education and Art History from Jagiellonian University, actively contributes to Krakbau’s success as Vice President. Jerzy finds fulfillment in his role as a grandfather to Artur, Adam, Milena, and Julia, cherishing their presence and emphasizing the importance of hard work, integrity, and commitment to excellence across generations.
His passion for sports is evident through his active participation in judo, alpine skiing, tennis, fitness, and golf. His dedication to judo began in his youth, where he excelled as a national team member and achieved numerous championships. His love for alpine skiing and tennis underscores his commitment to physical fitness and a competitive spirit. Jerzy’s leadership extends beyond business and sports into community engagement and advocacy for industry standards. He is a member of the Galician Chamber of Construction and has represented Poland and Eastern European countries in the Confederation of International Contractors’ Associations (CICA) in Paris. His commitment to social assistance, particularly for underprivileged and disabled children, is reflected in his role as a Knight of the Order of Saint Stanislaus.
Jerzy has been a member of the Presidium of the World Federation of Alpine Ski Instructors since 1991 when he was elected at the Congress in St. Anton. In 2017, at the Congress in Hakuba, he was elected Vice President, and in 2021, at the Congress in Levi, he became the President. This position underscores his dedication to promoting international cooperation and excellence in the ski industry.

In July 2024, Jerzy and his company were honored with the title “Personality of the 35th Anniversary of Poland” in the company of former Polish President Bronisław Komorowski and Sobiesław Zasada.
